| Bharatpur, was once a part of the old Matsya Desh like Alwar.History binds itself inextricably linked with mythology; for it was here that the Pandava brothers are supposed to have spent their13th year of exile around 3500 years back.This place was named as Bharatpur after the name of 'Bharat', the youngest brother of Lord Rama whose other brother Laxman was worshipped as the family of the deityof the Bharatpur. The sanctuary is situated a couple of kilometers from Bharatpur town. It was just like as the surronfings countryside till the late 19th century. |
