Jaisalmer fort is built in 1156. It is one of the finest in the country but one which looks rather inappropriate given the anguish around it. Located bang in the middle of the Thar desert . This Fort is 250 feet tall and 30 feet high crenallated walls to boost its protective coverage. There are 99 bastions too that enhance the defensive mechanism of the fort.It has four massive gateway. Outside the fort is the main market place called Manek Chowk. From Manek Chowk, one can walk into the lanes where the famous carved havelis are to be found.
